Dr. Shelton received his dental degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Dentistry in 2007. While there, Dr. Shelton was awarded the Dean’s certificate of Achievement and Dr. Kenneth L. Frame and Sara Jo Frame-Mazur Scholarship award. After graduating dental school with honors, Dr. Shelton continued his training with a residency at the University of Tennessee and V.A. Hospital in Memphis, where he completed a Masters in Dental Science and received his certificate in Periodontics. While in Memphis, Dr. Shelton did research on taste innervation which he presented at The Association for Chemoreception Sciences annual meeting in 2010 in Tampa, Florida.
Dr. Shelton is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is the only practicing board-certified periodontist in the Northwest Arkansas area. Dr. Shelton has also received the prestigious designation of “Fellow” with The International College of Oral Implantologists for his work in Implant Dentistry. Dr. Shelton stays up to date on the latest techniques and is the only periodontist in Arkansas to train with Dr. John Chao learning the pinhole surgical technique. Dr. Shelton always strives to provide his patients with the most conservative and yet beneficial treatment.
Dr. Shelton’s periodontal training included the surgical and non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease, soft tissue augmentation with emphasis on esthetics, bone regeneration, cat-scan guided dental implant therapy and intravenous sedation. Dr. Shelton has had advanced training in Laser Periodontal Therapy and Treatment. He has received his Laser Periodontal Therapy License. This license enables him to use the only FDA approved laser for the treatment of periodontal disease. While there are many lasers in the dental community, this particular laser is the only FDA approved laser for periodontal treatment and Dr. Shelton is one of the few periodontist licensed to use the laser. Dr. Shelton has advanced his training by attending the Center for Advanced Dental Education in Dallas, learning advanced periodontal plastic surgery and implant procedures from one on the pioneers in periodontal surgery, Dr. Pat Allen.
Dr. Shelton believes it is important to have an interdisciplinary team approach to patient treatment and will work closely with your restorative dentist to provide the highest quality and predictable solution to your periodontal and implant needs. Dr. Shelton is a member of the Arkansas State Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Northwest Arkansas Dental Society, American Society of Dental Anesthesiology and the Academy of Interdisciplinary Dentofacial Therapy.
Dr. Shelton is a native of Batesville, Arkansas. He graduated from Batesville High School and went on to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for undergraduate studies where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Biology. Dr. Shelton lives in Rogers, Arkansas with his wife Ella Bebow Shelton, also from Batesville.
